In 19th century Oregon Territory, a taciturn cook and a Chinese immigrant team up for an unlikely business – making and selling delightful baked goods secretly using milk from a local wealthy landowner’s single cow. Though the premise may seem simple, Kelly Reichardt’s new film is a delicate depiction of male friendship and an incisive commentary on individualism, masculinity and class.
